Figurin' out a new ball sometimes ain't easy.....

Took my Blue Hammer out today to do some test runs. The first game I bowled nice and easy because I wasn't warmed up. Ended up bowling a 234. Now it was time to try different things out. I tried throwing over the third arrow from the left by bellying the ball out. Hit the pocket to light. Put more revs on it and didn't hit the pocket right and was leaving a couple pins. Okay because I need spare practice with this ball. Next throwing over the second arrow from the left and bellying the ball to the pocket. Was leaving the 7 or 10 pin. Good practice for corner pin spares. The Blue works a lot better for me on the 7 pin because it doesn't hook when I throw at it. Stayed with the bellying thing over the second arrow for a while putting more revs and less revs to see if it would get a good pocket hit for strikes. Sometimes it would get strikes but mostly leaving a 7, 10 or a 5 which gave me more spare shooting practice. So after 5 games I decided to square up my shoulders and go between the first and second arrow while putting my sliding foot which is my right-I am left handed-on the third dot from the left. I had a straight wrist with my hand turned a little bit inside for a little hook. Well how about that. The strikes were coming again and one pin spares only and no open frames for a 236 game. Games 2 through 5 we won't talk about because those were practice games and you all know we don't count those. Ahem! So this urethane Hammer Blue Hammer ball loves straight down the boards direct bowling. When I found the target that it likes in the 5th game I was happy. So the 6th game was great. So it boils down to square shoulders plus straight down the boards and no bellying of the ball. Watch on next league night I will find out that to hit the pocket I have to open the shoulders and belly the ball over the 2nd arrow from the left to get a strike. You know I won't figure it out until the 3rd game. DOH! This can be a trying game sometimes.

No definitely not. Last ball I bought reacts the complete opposite of how I thought it would.

I picked up my Marauder Saturday. Had it drilled 50 X 4 X 30 for a strong mid-lane read, high flare and quick revving. It does just as I wanted but more than I expected.
I had to take one notch out of my brace, move my target 5 boards left (right hander) and feet 20 boards left. I love it but I wasn't expecting to have to move that far left with it. All that is at 20 mph too.
I played around with it after the purchase. The first few games were dreadful (150s-190s). Then then last three I shot an 860 but the lanes were burnt up by then so I was even further left. I couldn't go any faster by then. Shot a 701 in league tonight.

Glad to hear you figured it out, Urethane balls tend to be straight balls, but on very dry lanes even a urethane ball can go coast to coast lol. let us know what happens during league, remember its always a good idea to try at least 2 or 3 lines in practice before league on unfamiliar oil to find what will work best

Probably going coast to coast with a urethane would depend on the layout and the surface treatment you have on the ball. I am not a coast to coast type bowler so I just leave that idea alone. The most I do is play the first dot right of the center dot placing my sliding foot toe there and throwing a belly ball over the third arrow from the left. Depending how the ball goes to the strike pocket. I adjust from there moving left and not further right.
