I changed my surface for the first time on my beatdown last week when I had that 684. I went from the out of box 4000, to 2000 pad, not paper!

Nothing great so far in league, with the beatdown, but It did pick up sooner, and had a nice look, without the huge flip at the end. It carried the 10 pin most of the night with that angle. It was a good series, so time will tell if it measures up to my Two Storm balls that have been very ,,, VERY good to me! lol
Yes The OOB on the Beatdown is 500/4000 abralon.

500 Abralon is between 320 & 360 grit in Regular sandpaper grit (US ANSI/CAMI)

Now 320/360 grit feels a lot rougher than 500 abralon (It has to do with the grit tolerances), I would substitute 400 grit paper for a 500 abralon myself

4000 Abralon is 1500 grit in Regular sandpaper grit (US ANSI/CAMI)

What I did was I used a P800 grit paper on four sides first as the base grit. ( P800 is between 400 & 500 grit reg. paper)

Then I followed that with the 1500 grit paper (I could have used a 4000 abralon pad, but I was out so used the paper. (A package was $3 at walmarts in the auto section)

This I felt was still close to the OOB , but it gave me a bit more length and it let me swing it out a little easier and still had good hold up the middle. The midlane read was still good and it was still off the spot strong.

    Default thanks

Thanks for the INFO! I did 4 sides of 500 and then 2000! I used the pads, not sand paper. It does make a difference, in regards to my beatdown, It breaks sooner, and with a more gradual arc into the pocket! Its a blast trying out different surfaces on the balls! You really can see the difference in their reaction!

How often do you resurface? Every 30 games or so? Is there a standard on that?

    Now that's pretty awesome!

    How often do "I" resurface?

Well I "refresh" the surface after every session. (Meaning I take the final grit used and touch up the surface) and After about 9 games or so I will redo the surface with whatever surface I'm using.

    Example Using the 500/4000 surface:

After every 3 games touch up with just the 4000 (Either by hand or on spinner.)

After every 9 games redo the surface with 500/1000 (plus I use Clean'N Dull to pull some oil out).

"Is there a standard on that?"

I think this came up before

Storm recommends using the suggested cleaner/polish daily. In addition, Storm recommends
touching up the surface with only the final step every 20 games and resurfacing completely
    every 30-50 games.

But it all depends on how much you bowl and on what conditions.

As for touching up the surface with only the final step, the current opinion is that you should refresh the surface after every session.

This is because after checking with the ball surface scanner, they found just how much the ball surface changes after only a couple of games.

According to Mo Pinel drilling the fingers deaper will lower the "spin time" (How quick it gets to it's PSA(Posative spin axis)) by lowering the rg of the ball. He said to go a maximum of 3 1/2 inches deep as ater that it has no effect. And balance holes if properly placed can have a HUGE difference in ball reaction
