    2. Aslan - suck it up buttercup. You ain't going nowhere. Pull up your suspenders and get back in there. You are in because Mudpuppy said so (3rd person reference, done.)

    3. Wood lanes, concrete lanes, asphalt, sand, grass, synthetic, artificial - whatever. If there is ice cream there I'm in.

If you want to make it on wood, make it a plastic ball only event.

Real men know how to hit the pocket without a wall of oil guiding the ball, and reactive resin to keep it up against that wall.

I still have a undrilled yellow dot if any one needs it for the tournament.

NOT sure what your talking about, I have had some VERY GOOD bowlers try Plattsburg out,,, some games pretty damn good, some not so good.
You will need to show ICEMAN where this "Wall of Guiding OIL is! Hope your coming, would be interesting to see you and Aslan bowl on Wood!
I think he has the edge so far??? Correct me if I am wrong!?

Some of the toughest lanes I have ever played. They are in great condition, and get above and beyond lane maintenance, and inspected by the USBC twice a year.

I know guys that have been bowling there for 35 years,, they use the same combination of balls, symmetrical, asymmetrical,,, you name it! GOOD LUCK with your plastic ball when you arrive. I don't seem to understand why plastic? Maybe your being sarcastic with the thought of What REAL MEN Bowl on!

One of the reasons there has never been a sanctioned 300 game on these pristine lanes is they applied the oil by using mops up until 3 years ago, when they got the Oil Machine I posted on this thread. I think there will be one in the near future,,, there are some good scores now and then on the wood.

But take off about 20 pins on your average when bowling these lanes, unless your the exception to the rule! Wood is much more complicated a Challenge in my opinion!

I had a couple good 200 plus last Thursday that I posted... so it can be done!

There have been two non sanctioned 300s, says the managers, Chris, and Lee!

I think it would be a hoot, having the lanes to ourselves,,, 6 lanes! Closed to the public!

I want to keep the numbers to basically bowling board com members, which would include Jason, and Gene! Pat Henderson is not a member as of yet, so he would not be invited.
Pat its not to late to join!! LOL

Says the guy with the 500 rev rate that routinely uses plastic for his strike shots…

Anyone else wonder why Iceman has the bumpers up when he bowls there. Suddenly those 300 games are making more sense...

Ice man puts the bumpers up at this alley for one reason! I am so confidant with my ability to keep the ball on the lanes, that I have an open end bet that if my ball touches the PCP Pipe, I will donate 1000.00 dollars to the Help Aslan thought coaching, charity!

Don't get excited, the money would go directly to Rob!! Your hands would not come in contact with the donation! (Fear you might yet purchase another ball for your closet!)

READ the Thread,,,, ( NEVER BEEN a sanctioned 300 since 1957), when it opened. Its going to happen, on my Thursday and with the (new/used reconditioned oil machine) I have seen some eight in a roles even 9 strikes,,, but no gold ring yet!

Are you THE MAN ASLAN??? HOW about you MIKE,,,, How about YOU ROB??? These are great lanes,,,, its going to happen, I can feel it.

I think another reason their has not been one is that these Farm Boys like a challenge! They don't use the SAME OLD BLOCKED pattern every week.
They change the length, and pattern.

They get together and talk about what kind of pattern they want just before league every Thursday afternoon, and lay it down fresh.

What pattern and leangth will we be using in our

REAL MEN BOWL WOOD Tournament of 2015?

start saving your money! Only expence would be the cheap flight out to KCI, rental car, and room. ICEMAN will take care of the bowling alley!
We could have the lanes for as many hours as we decide... Sorta like the sign says in front for open bowling! They only have leauges in the fall and winter.

This is a ONCE in a LIFETIME opportunity to show your skills on WOOD! When would be your choice of time of year? Remember if we want to do this on a weekend, they have no leagues on Saturday , they simple don't have the open bowling, if we have it late in the afternoon.. LOL

10 hours 45 minutes to drive - I'm driving there and bringing my massive 2 ball arsenal. Dates? Maybe you and Aslan can go on a date Iceman but I'll be bowling. But srsly I will trailer my bike and we can do some riding while I am there. When is the weather best for riding in KC?

LOL,,, any weather, is biking weather, other then snow!! LOL I am still riding my bike, to the gym, and bowling and short runs into the country side! I would say spring, or early fall is perfect!

Glad your on board,,, I hope that the group we had in Vegas, can make this journey into History, on the Wood! I have this funny Feeling that Rob, Mike and what's his name, are AFFRAID OF THE WOOD CHALLANGE!! Aslan is already coming up with FAKE injuries!

This get together will be EVEN COOLER THEN THE LAST! The temperature here is much more pleasant... LOL Not only that we will have the lanes to ourselves!!! (No one in that alley but bowlingboard members!!) How COOL is that!!! Chris, and Lee, the two guys that run the alley, are without a doubt the nicest guys you will EVER MEET!!

Also he said he would lay any pattern we want, and even change it if we like!!

Hey Iceman rode his bike two up, with trailer 3000 miles at 66!!! I was ready to keep going after I got home!!!!!!! Bowling and Biking, life doesn't get any better then that!! I BETTER NOT HEAR, OOOOO,,, ICEMAN,,, ITS TOO FAR FOR US TO DRIVE/FLY/WALK!!

THIS IS GOING TO BE A HUGE EVENT!!!

First off, what Aslan bowled on wouldn't qualify as wood lanes. They were in such poor shape, with probably 90% of the first 15 feet being patched boards, and they hadn't been sanded to be flush with the board next to it. It was like bowling on asphalt.

As for decent condition wood, thats all there was during the majority of my bowling.

I shot my 1st 300 on wood, and my 791 series.

My recent 837 was on synthetic, with a massive wall of guiding oil.

You did see the wall of guiding oil in Vegas.

Mudpuppy, and Rob used it quite often, pulling the ball and it just stopped hooking at the oil line.

Rob tended to give the ball a little room early, but the ball would hook back to the oil line, then set in the pocket.

It may be that the wall of oil has always been there for your whole bowling experience, so you don't recognize it.

Real men bowl on a condition where if you miss your target (at 15 feet) by 1 board, you miss the pocket by 4 boards.

Wall babies (on the wall of guiding oil) can miss by 5 boards and still hit the pocket.

It's quite possible that the 6 lane center by using mops to apply oil didn't create the wall of oil, but it's highly likely they do when using a modern machine.

Back in the days before synthetic, there wasn't reactive resin balls. So if you wanted your ball to hit harder than a marshmallow, you had to learn how to roll it. Lane friction alone didn't make the ball roll like today's balls.

It was easy to throw too much revs, and the ball wouldn't hook at all. You see this today with house balls that some people try to spin.

You could throw the ball hard, with very little (if any) hook, but your angle of entry was weak.

If you slowed the ball down, you could improve the angle of entry, but the slow speed meant the ball hit with much less energy.

Bowling with plastic balls was a balancing act.

Some of us put in the time to optimize that balance and we outscored the masses.

Then came along reactive resin, and the balancing act was severely disrupted.

You couldn't over rev the ball and have it not hook, which mean as long as your revs were in line with your speed, you could increase both and the results kept improving.

The masses however couldn't control that much hooking ability so the bowling centers put more oil in the middle of the lane to help guide the ball to the pocket.

Back in the day it wasn't about what score you shot, it was about did you beat your opponent.

Now it seems people are more happy averaging 240 in a tourney and finishing 5th, compared to averaging 205 and winning.

Tough lane conditions test all parts of your game.

Easy conditions test your ability to play the wall the way the wall wants to be played.
